In Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), Beholders are one of the most iconic and terrifying monsters in Dungeons & Dragons. They are aberrations, alien creatures known for their large, spherical bodies, dominated by a single, central eye and a wide, tooth-filled mouth. What makes them even more menacing are their many eyestalks, each ending in a smaller eye that can unleash devastating magical abilities, such as disintegration, petrification, or mind control. Beholders are known for their paranoid, xenophobic nature and their overwhelming belief in their own superiority. They view all other creatures, including other beholders, as potential threats or inferiors, which makes them not only deadly but also unpredictable.
In addition to their raw power, beholders are often master strategists, with lairs designed to maximize their advantage in combat. Their central eye can project an antimagic cone, nullifying the spells of their enemies, while their other eyes unleash a barrage of magical attacks. Each beholder is unique, with some having different abilities or physical traits depending on their origin, but all share a common trait: they are consumed by paranoia and will do anything to eliminate perceived threats. Beholders often rule over vast domains underground, commanding minions and shaping their lairs to be death traps for intruders. These creatures are as intelligent as they are powerful, making any encounter with a beholder a true challenge for adventurers.
